The aim of the present study is to explore the future pathways for expanding religious tourism in Iran, with the goal of providing an appropriate cognitive and scientific foundation for planners and policymakers based on the opinions of elites. This research is applied in terms of purpose and employs a survey method at an exploratory level, grounded in a futures studies approach. Given the nature of this study, a number of specialists and experts were first selected, and documentary studies were utilized to identify key drivers in religious tourism. The participants who were identified and contributed to the research consisted of 15 experts in the fields of tourism management and the Plan and Budget Organization. In the second stage, using the cross-impact analysis method with the MICMAC software, a structural analysis of the drivers identified in the first stage was conducted. The findings of the research indicate that the drivers of creating suitable infrastructure for travel agencies and managers of religious tourism websites, the existence of various religious ceremonies, and the presence of tombs of divine prophets with global value can play a key role in the development of religious tourism.
